London medical schools in 60m pounds sterling hi-tech merger
Article Abstract:
Imperial College Medical School, one of the largest academic medical institutions in the UK, will be created as a result of government plans to merge the medical schools of four London teaching hospitals with the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine. However, the 60 million pounds sterling scheme is being criticised by medical students, who believe that the new high-tech institution will bring about the decline of the historic culture and traditions of medical education. A new emphasis on medicine could also diminish the importance of the work of science and engineering staff at Imperial College.

Article Abstract:
High security special hospital Rampton near Worksop in Nottinghamshire, Broadmoor in Berkshire and Ashworth on Merseyside house 1,700 mentally disordered offenders. Rampton has 518, 101 of whom are women. These institutions are administered by the Special Hospitals Service Authority within the NHS. Rampton has high-security perimeter fencing and 4,000 locked doors. There is a staff/patient ratio of more than two to one. As there are only two pre-discharge wards, patients may have to wait years for discharge.
