Lord Advocate admits Scotland's 'racist' justice system failed victim's community

The Scottish criminal justice system failed to fulfill its responsibilities towards the relatives of Sikh waiter Surjit Singh Chhokar, who was murdered in Overtown, Scotland, in Nov 1998, according to the Lord Advocate, Colin Boyd QC. He has now presented the findings of two independent inquiries into the murder, both of which found that the prosecution made mistakes in preparing its case.

Scotland cashes in on growing taste for urchins

The roe of the sea urchin is becoming increasingly popular in top restaurants as supplies of sturgeon plummet. This is benefiting Scotland, where the common spiky green sea urchin is still found in large numbers in sheltered bays. New technology is making it possible to breed them in large enough numbers to sell on to fish farms.

Bridge to Skye takes its toll on angry islanders
Article Abstract:
Residents of the Scottish island of Skye continue to protest very strongly at the high toll levied to cross the bridge from the mainland to the island. Some feel that the construction of the bridge has actually had a negative impact on tourism, rather than encouraging visitors.
