Shedding a little light on landscape in the dark time of the year
Article Abstract:
The National Gallery of Scotland in Edinburgh, Scotland, holds an exhibition of watercolours by Joseph Turner each Jan. The fact that that these paintings can only be seen for a short time each year has given this annual exhibition an importance it would not otherwise have. The 38 paintings, which were bequeathed to the Scottish nation in 1900 by Henry Vaughan, are all rather conservative in taste. However, there are some very good examples and they cover the whole of Turner's career.
