Journalist Hugh Cudlipp became Features Editor of the Daily Mirror at the age of 22, and at 24 became Editor of the Sunday Pictorial. His mentor was Cecil King, who educated him and greatly encouraged him. He gained a strong reputation for his commitment to boosting the knowledge, freedom and welfare of ordinary people. He rose through the ranks of journalism to become chairman of International Publishing Corp between 1968 and 1973 and deputy chairman of Reed International between 1970 and 1973.

Donald Wise
Article Abstract:
Journalist Donald Wise became a junior reporter for the Daily Mail and then the Daily Sketch. He was commissioned into the Suffolk Regiment at the beginning of the second world war, and after the war fought as part of the counter-guerrilla Ferret Force in the jungle of Malaya. He returned to journalism in South Africa and Kenya, and for the next 20 years reported wars in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. He moved to Hong Kong to write for the Far Eastern Economic Review in the late 1970s.

Sir David English
Article Abstract:
Journalist David English began his career at local newspapers. He worked at the Daily Mirror between 1951 and 1953, but did not really make an impact until he moved to the Daily Sketch, where he became American correspondent of sister newspaper the Sunday Dispatch. He returned to the UK in 1964 to become foreign editor of the Daily Express, but moved to the Daily Mail in 1971. He transformed this newspaper, boosting its circulation to more than that of the Daily Express.
