Making up the numbers
Article Abstract:
Film company Cromwell Productions has been able to raise 90% of the 500,000 pounds sterling required to make a film version of 'Macbeth' through charging the people who appear in the film as extras and making them into 'shareholders.' It was able to sell 500 pounds sterling shares to 600 members of the public, thus overcoming a lack of funding from Scottish arts authorities. This approach has proved popular among the people appearing as extras, even though they would usually expect to be paid for this work.

Not bad for a boy from the Bayou
Article Abstract:
Dark themes are attractive, according to singer and actor Harry Connick Jr. He enjoys singing about themes such as disease and death, and is particularly attracted to slow, tragic songs. He still hopes to be extremely successful as a singer, but is also drawn to acting. His most recent role is in 'Hope Floats,' a film he regards as bordering on sentimentality. He would also like to direct once he has gained enough experience of acting.

Disraeli has a lot to answer for
Article Abstract:
The House of Commons currently has a large number of published novelists. MPs who are involved in writing include Edwina Curry, Julian Critchley, Douglas Hurd and Chris Mullin. Many of their books have dealt with political intrigue, and this genre is now becoming rather exploited. Almost all these books would not have been published if they had not been written by someone already well known by the general public.
