Man enough for poisonous porridge
Article Abstract:
The UK government has chosen not to renew Judge Tumim's contract as inspector of prisons. He has received very little recognition from the government for his honest and fearless work, and this has caused great dismay among his admirers. However, it appears that his successor, General Sir David Ramsbotham, may not be a puppet of the government, as had originally been thought, and may actually be almost as critical of prison policy as Judge Tumim. Some observers now believe that Judge Tumim should become director of prisons.

Auntie in a flap over the F-word
Article Abstract:
The BBC plays a leading role in the debate over moral standards in the UK, as it is now the only institution which really brings people together. It must deal with extremely sensitive issues, and bears an additional burden of responsibility because it receives income from the licence fee. This sometimes mean that it becomes involved in debates which are extremely obscure and generally meaningless.
