The left's last supper
Article Abstract:
Some traditional supporters of the UK Labour party, those who could be characterised as 'old Labour,' have reservations about the party's current stance on many issues. They feel that party leader Tony Blair cannot be trusted, and emphasise the way in which he has attempted to gain support from business and how he has treated dissent within the party. It is certainly most unlikely that the Labour party would be able to fulfill all its promises if it were to win the forthcoming general election, but it should be given the opportunity to prove itself.

Flying the flag for a lower Scottish grant
Article Abstract:
The UK government is keen to defend the current block grant system for the allocation of funding to Wales and Scotland, believing that this system produces a fair settlement for Scotland. However, some observers believe that there can no longer be any justification for higher per-capita spending in Scotland than in Wales and England. This issue is particularly sensitive because of its close links with Scottish devolution. It is likely that devolution will be used by some English ministers as an argument for reducing the Scottish block grant.
