Rumer Godden

Writer Rumer Godden was born in the UK but lived in India until she was 12. She returned there at the age of 17 and opened a dance school in Calcutta, India. Her first novel, a children's book, was published in 1935 when she was 28. She first came to public attention with 'Black Narcissus,' published in 1938. She moved back to the UK in 1945 and wrote a series of successful novels in the 1950s and 1960s, along with many books for children.

Rachel Trickett
Article Abstract:
English scholar and novelist Rachel Trickett studied at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, England, between 1942 and 1945. Her first job was as assistant to the Curator at Manchester City Art Galleries. She was Assistant Lecturer in English at Hull University, England, between 1946 and 1949, and was Lecturer there from 1950 to 1954. She became a tutor at St Hugh's College, Oxford, in 1954, and was Principal between 1973 and 1991.
