Michel Bell: he just keeps rollin' along
Article Abstract:
The role of Joe in 'Show Boat' is very demanding, according to opera singer Michel Bell. He has been playing this role for a long time, but feels that there have only been a few occasions on which he has performed very well. However, he has greatly appealed to audiences. He was not really aware that being black could be a problem in establishing a career as a singer until he was a teenager. He then realized that he would have to be extremely confident and not allow himself to fall victim to insecurity.
