Move over, Carmen
Article Abstract:
Nuria Trinanes, 27, runs a flamenco dancing class in King's Cross, London and has been teaching since she was 16. The ancient folk dancing of the Andalusian gypsies suffered oppression during the years of Franco and has now been ruthlessly exploited by the Spanish tourist industry. Nuria says a new wave of this dancing has now become very popular, mainly as a way of people letting go of their emotions and expressing themselves. The dancing is constructed around a rhythm of 12 beats and beginners are first taught to drum their heels and then to stamp.
