Murders mar a picture of wealth
Article Abstract:
The Georgetown area of north-west Washington, DC, has traditionally been regarded as a haven from the violent crime which characterizes life in the rest of the city. It has for many years attracted intellectuals, politicians and those who work in the media, and has a very cosmopolitan atmosphere. The area has never been completely free of crime, but has until now not been troubled by crimes such as murder. This is why the recent murder of three young people in a coffee shop there has attracted a great deal of publicity.

Killers roamed corridors hunting down their 'prey.'
Article Abstract:
Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold targeted athletes and members of ethnic minorities when they attacked fellow students at Columbine High School in Littleton, Denver, CO, with pistols, semi-automatic rifles and pipe bombs. They were known to have eccentric views and to admire Adolf Hitler, but it had not been anticipated that they would be capable of such extreme violence. It took police some time to bring the situation under control and to enter the school, where more than 12 bombs with timers were found.

Skinheads held for 'racist' murder
Article Abstract:
Three skinheads who come from in or near the city of Reims, France, have been charged with the murder during the National Front's May Day march through Paris of Brahim Bourram, a Moroccan who worked in his family's shop in the Marais quarter of the city. It is reported that he was pushed into the Seine from the Carrousel bridge by a number of skinheads. The Paris police have been under considerable pressure to find the culprits, especially during the politically sensitive election period.
