My lovely daughter is a rolling stone
Article Abstract:
Diana Wingett's daughter never conformed at school although she was academic, attractive and likeable, and eventually refused to attend. She has now left home, lives in a squat during the winter and travels during the summer. She has no possessions and tells frightening tales of evictions, encounters with the police and being moved on. She used to argue that she hated school because she did not want to be told what to think yet now she repeats time and again propaganda justifying her present way of life. Her mother hopes that she will eventually become bored with the way of life, as she always became bored with things in her childhood.

Move a stone, the building rocks
Article Abstract:
The Green Paper on the future of the BBC supports the licence fee and suggests a Public Broadcasting Council to allocate funds. Funding is essential for creative programming. Renewal of the Charter should be discussed by a range of bodies representing Britain's cultural activities. The debate should consider what the BBC should provide that the market cannot, how it can improve what the market provides, and how it can be managed in the public interest.
