As self-portraits show, artists are not all that interesting
Article Abstract:
It is quite common in the world of modern art for artists to produce little apart from self-portraits. The growing obsession with individuality and self-expression in modern society is clearly the reversed mirror image of globalization. This is a key theme in the work of Tracey Emin, whose mixed-media installations and performances are strongly autobiographical. In fact, self-portraits are not necessarily very interesting, as shown by the exhibition of Rembrandt self-portraits due to open shortly at the National Gallery in London, England.
