Nature's waking up early
Article Abstract:
Observers of nature believe that spring is arriving slightly earlier each year, although the official date on which spring begins has not changed. Wood anemones, for example, are now showing flowers 10 days earlier than they were at the end of the 19th century, and thrush song is being heard earlier too. Many birds are now nesting up to two weeks earlier than they did even a few decades ago. It is thought that these developments are not only the result of climate changes, but nobody is sure what the real causes are.

To dump or not to dump on Davy Jones
Article Abstract:
Deep oceans could offer potential for the disposal of large concrete and metal structures, sewage sludge and even low-level radioactive waste, according to Dr Martin Angel, senior biologist at the Institute of Oceanographic Studies. As the world's population expands, dumping waste on land will become increasingly difficult, especially with the danger of groundwater pollution. Disposal at sea would carry no pollution risk as long as contaminants are placed in water deeper than 2,000 mt.
