New Scotland, old fears
Article Abstract:
There is now a strong atmosphere of creativity and enthusiasm in Scotland. The Scots have become much less openly critical of the English, and are now willing to acknowledge conflict between themselves. There seems to be no strong desire for independence in the new Scotland, and support for the Scottish National Party seems to be motivated mainly by the desire to issue a warning to the Labour party not to claim responsibility for the sense of optimism in Scotland.

Dancing to the bigot's tune
Article Abstract:
The issue of racism in Scotland is now beginning to receive much wider publicity. Many ordinary Scots are also recognizing the need to eliminate bigotry from Scottish society.
