Nice work, Wim - now for the long haul
Article Abstract:
The European Central Bank (ECB) has seen a lessening of pressure on the European euro, which looked set to fall to parity with the US dollar. The 11 countries involved in European monetary union appear to have good economic prospects, and new optimism relating to Germany in particular has strengthened the euro. German recovery is seen as important for a long-term recovery in Europe, and prospects in other European countries appear good. There are also signs of European structural reform, and there is a view that markets overshot in terms of the drop in value of the euro.

Dramatic exit that was a bolt out of the blue
Article Abstract:
The official explanation for the unexpected resignation of Barclays Bank Chief Executive Martin Taylor is that he feels that he has completed his task at the bank and that a new management team now needs to take over. It has been emphasized that there has been no conflict among members of the bank's board and that Taylor's decision to leave was entirely his own. However, most observers feel that this is not the case. Many people feel that Taylor had a significant difference of opinion with the rest of the board about strategy.
