Not cut out for going it alone
Article Abstract:
UK department store group John Lewis Partnership has expressed reservations about the shift towards portfolio careers, in which people tend to move easily from employer to employer and may spend a lot of their time working on a freelance basis from home. The group points out that there are still advantages associated with being an employee, particularly greater job and income security. It has also voiced doubts about whether portfolio careers really make a contribution to commercial success or social harmony.

Don't be negative about risk
Article Abstract:
Risk has traditionally been regarded very negatively, with many executives and organizations being strongly risk-averse. However, it is now becoming more widely recognized that it is wrong to focus on the negative aspects of risk. In fact, well-managed risk can actually boost a company's performance, and risk management is essential to the long-term growth of all companies. Risk management must now be seen as pursuing opportunity and profit.
