Now judges speak out, but should we listen?
Article Abstract:
There have been a number of instances recently in which top judges have been openly critical of the UK government. This comes at a time when there are signs of significant changes in the UK's political and legal culture. Judges are now taking on a much more public profile, and are expressing their personal views on a wide range of issues. It is to be welcomed that judges are no longer completely detached from political life, but it would be regrettable if they became activists without assuming the responsibilities which go with such a role.

The dreadful meaning of words
Article Abstract:
Revolutionaries have often used the power of language as a key weapon. At times of revolution, words can take on new meanings, with different groups adopting particular words for specific purposes. During the French Revolution, for example, revolutionary leaders were aware that language was a key to power. They therefore gave considerable attention to destroying the linguistic system of the old regime, and from this stemmed their obsession with the title of the King.
