Now we are sick
Article Abstract:
There have been considerable changes in the tone adopted by writers of children's literature since the late 19th century. Victorian children's books were almost without exception overtly moral in tone, but by the early years of the 20th century children's literature had taken on a whimsical, dreamy atmosphere. Nowadays, there is a clear element of harsh reality in children's books, and many of the children portrayed in these books are unhappy.
