Nureyev: the last 10 years
Article Abstract:
The forthcoming BBC1 documentary making the fourth anniversary of the death of Rudolf Nureyev, which covers the last 10 years of his life, is misleading. It focuses inappropriately on his illness, and gives excessive attention to people who have very little knowledge of Nureyev. It gives Nureyev little credit for the achievements of his final years, and suggests that he was simply waiting for death, which is entirely wrong.

The work of outgoing Royal Ballet Artistic Director Anthony Dowell is discussed. It is suggested that his achievements have been mixed. He has focused on the 19th-century classics, but has been very effective in coaching his own former roles.
