Oak relics reveal the London Bridge of 1500BC
Article Abstract:
Archaeologists involved with the three-year Thames Archaeological Survey have identified the remains of an oak bridge constructed across the Thames in the middle Bronze Age, around 1500BC. This bridge consisted of oak posts made from trunks up to 2 ft in diameter and set pointing inwards between 12 degrees and 14 degrees from the horizontal. They supported a bridge platform up to 15 ft wide. Archaeologists now wish to undertake a full-scale investigation of the bridge remains.
