Oar house
Article Abstract:
David Chipperfield has combined modern and traditional elements in his design for the River and Rowing Museum in Henley, England, which is set for completion in summer 1998. The form of the building makes reference to the riverside boat houses of the town and to the traditional wooden barns of Oxfordshire, but does not come across as a compromise of styles. The first floor galleries, where examples of rowing boats will be displayed, contrast strongly with the public areas below, where there is extensive use of wall-to-ceiling glass.

What a swell party we need
Article Abstract:
The UK government and the Millennium Commission have so far been unable to decide where a millennium festival should be held. It is vital that a decision is made soon, as extensive preparations will be required if a really successful festival is to be created. It now seems likely that the site of the festival will be Greenwich in London, which has an attractive location on a large bend in the River Thames.
