On being a toff in Tony's Britain
Article Abstract:
It has traditionally been assumed in the UK that being posh is inextricably linked with wealth. This is no longer the case, as there are now many other ways in which poshness is defined. Indeed, those who flaunt their wealth are generally not considered posh at all. Poshness is now more closely linked with having little concern for the future, being prepared to take risks and paying little attention to personal image. In general, the modern definition of poshness is that less is more. For this reason, short books are considered better than long ones and public displays of affection are frowned upon.

In hot pursuit of the irrational
Article Abstract:
Those who believe that fox hunting should be banned fail to realise that this is one of the few genuinely irrational pursuits which are still open to people in the UK. For this reason, it plays a significant role in society, especially among the upper classes. It allows people to take risks on a voluntary basis, and if it were banned people would turn to a much less noble pursuit. It is true that the fox suffers when being hunted, but foxes generally die a painful death in any case.

Absolute beginners, absolute stars
Article Abstract:
The UK's National Orchestra Week 1998 is designed to introduce children to orchestral music. It involves many different orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, which has worked with primary school children from Southwark, London, England, on a tune from Shostakovich's 7th Symphony. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra held a workshop at the Royal College of Music, where a combination of cooperation, enthusiasm and discipline brought very good results.
