On the road to reform
Article Abstract:
Lord Justice Woolf has travelled extensively in the UK to gather opinions on how access to justice can be improved. He has discussed the issue with a number of different groups, including solicitors, barristers and judges, and believes that his involvement has encouraged these groups to start communicating more effectively with each other. He will now present interim findings to the Lord Chancellor in spring 1995, with a final report planned for 1996.

Mr Mears lays down the law
Article Abstract:
Martin Mears was seen as an outside candidate in the contests for the presidency of the Law Society, which represents 64,000 solicitors in England and Wales. However, he gained far more votes than the other contenders, and believes that this is because he is determined to challenge the traditional culture of the Law Society. He has a wide-ranging agenda for change, but he may not have the power to put this into practice.
