One hundred days can be a short time in politics
Article Abstract:
The Labor party has been in power in the United Kingdom for 100 days and still retains the support of the electorate. The government has introduced a number of daring measures such as removing free university tuition for the middle classes and raising taxes to put the unemployable into work. There have been difficulties and there are problems yet to be tackled such as whether consumer taxes should be increased to deal with a boom in consumption. The electorate's hopes are still alive, and Gordon Brown, the chancellor, has a chance to show that his role is to united a divided UK.

How to revive top-quality democracy
Article Abstract:
It is important that the Labour party maintains a strong momentum, as the next general election may not take place for some time, according to party leader Tony Blair. He believes that the party must work hard to ensure that ordinary people do not lose interest in politics, and is looking at how to change the very nature of party politics in the UK. This may include a referendum on proportional representation, an issue which is very important to the Liberal Democrats.

Fretfulness over the pain of change
Article Abstract:
The Labour party continues to make rapid changes in policy, even though Tony Blair has now been leader for some time. The national executive of the party has recently voted to reduce the trade unions' share of conference votes to 50%, from the previous 90%, and all-women shortlists are also to be abandoned. Some party members are now starting to express concern about the pace of change.
