The Haughton crater on Devon Island, located in the Canadian high arctic, will be the focus of an initiative to recreate a mission to Mars. Up to six volunteers chosen from the general public will live in a sealed cylindrical module intended to resemble a Martian base.

Nasa has produced convincing data indicating that the meteorite ALH84001 contains extremely small traces of life forms that could only have originated on Mars. An international research team believes that there was abundant life on Mars around 3.5 billion years ago.
