The strange spectacle of the Tory right opposing a Nato war
Article Abstract:
Politicians in the UK are roughly divided into three groups in terms of their views about Nato military action against the Serbs over Kosovo, Yugoslavia. These groups have little connection with party loyalties. Some MPs support the government, while others are opposed to any military action at all and others believe that military action will not be successful without the use of ground troops. Those who support the government form the largest group, but it would be wrong to dismiss the anti-war forces. However, there is a strong argument against adopting an isolationist view.

Only the man in Hush Puppies can lay the ghost of Thatcherism
Article Abstract:
Former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher continues to exert considerable influence over the Conservative party. Current party leader William Hague must devote a great deal of energy to devising a story about the party's relationship with Thatcher that will be acceptable for explaining what present day Conservatism really is. Hague seems very vulnerable, but there are few people who really wish to replace him as party leader. The Conservative party may have to suffer a general election defeat before it realizes that recovery will only come if it rejects the Europhobic element of Thatcher's policies.
