Oriental carpets take off as designers pile in
Article Abstract:
There has been a strong increase in interest in antique Oriental carpets among investors. Prices for bold-patterned, loosely knotted Turkish Ushak carpets, which were made in large numbers at the end of the 19th century, have risen sharply, and there has been an even larger rise in prices for Tabriz carpets from Azerbaijan, irrespective of quality. Prices have been particularly high in New York, NY, where interior designers are very keen to buy carpets with interlocking overall patterns, rather than central medallions.

Ian Fleming and his notebook of women
Article Abstract:
The personal notebook of author of the James Bond novels Ian Fleming is to be auctioned in aid of the London Library. It contains ideas for his spy stories and reveals his sexism. James Bond films are better known than the books, which are more sexist. Fleming's notebook is full of jottings about women, describing his personal thoughts rather than notes for his novels. It describes English women as cold and unhappy. Some song titles, lyrics and one-liners are included.

Never mind the critics, this is art
Article Abstract:
There is growing interest in 1970s punk art in the UK. Prices are still relatively low, as auctioneers are not yet taking the trouble to verify authenticity, and this means that some collectors are unwilling to purchase certain items. A Sex Pistols poster or T-shirt, for example, can still be purchased for less than 500 pounds sterling. It is likely that items designed by Malcolm McLaren will become increasingly valuable in the future.
