Our society needs outsiders
Article Abstract:
United Kingdom Home Secretary, Jack Straw, has portrayed Romany travelers as unhygienic and involved in theft. Meanwhile many people agree with him and also see asylum seekers as parasites. There appears to be a need in Britain to identify a group of people who are classed as different and are then attacked. They may have been black, as in the 1950s, or poor, as in the 1970s and 1980s. Groups suffering from problems are seen as being the problem. There is a need for non-conformists in society, and tolerance of non-conformist can foster mutuality.

Can we learn the art of commitment?
Article Abstract:
The proportion of never-married people in the UK population is set to rise in the 21st century. It seems that many people wish to avoid commitment, preferring the short-term nature of co-habitation to the duties and obligations of marriage. Against this background, it must be considered whether the art of commitment can be learnt. Research indicates that creating an appropriate environment makes it easier for men to be committed. Such an environment must include confidence in fatherhood.
