Paris and Bonn hail Britain as equal partner
Article Abstract:
The UK's new Labour government is very keen to improve relations with its European Union partners, according to Foreign Secretary Robin Cook. He has already visited Paris, France, and Bonn, Germany, and has spoken of key areas where the UK and its European Union partners could be in agreement. He is hoping that the UK can be an equal partner with France and Germany. However, the UK is determined to retain its permanent right to maintain its own border controls, and will not give the European Union responsibilities for defence.
