Party poopers
Article Abstract:
Some observers have criticised the UK Labour party for its unwillingness to make a firm commitment to the planned Millennium Exhibition in Greenwich, London, England. Indeed, some critics have even gone as far as to claim that the party's lack of commitment will almost certainly mean that the project will not go ahead. It seems strange that this significant project should depend on the Labour party, which after all has not been the party of government in the UK for many years. To some people, the Labour party is right to have reservations about investing so much public money.

How the courts silenced the BBC
Article Abstract:
The recent ruling by the Scottish Court of Session which banned the showing of a BBC 'Panorama' interview with prime minister John Major because of its possible influence on the outcome of local elections in Scotland has some disturbing implications. It has already served to considerably damage confidence within the BBC, and producers and directors will now have to pay much more attention to the possible objections of MPs, judges and executives. The BBC's ability to broadcast as it thinks fit will be severely hampered.
