Please sir, may I take my children on holiday to the Seychelles?
Article Abstract:
The revelation that UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has allowed his children to miss a few days of the new school term at the beginning of 1999 in order to complete a holiday in the Seychelles has served to revive controversy about whether parents should be permitted to remove their children from school during term time for family holidays. Many parents find this an attractive option, as it gives them greater flexibility, especially if both are working, and allows them to save money. However, if large numbers of parents do this, then teachers can face serious problems in maintaining standards.

Article Abstract:
There are long-standing unwritten rules governing behaviour in many types of social situation in the UK. However, there as yet no such rules governing the way people should behave in supermarkets, and this can be a cause of considerable tension. Some people become frustrated when others block access to shelves with their trolley, for example, while others become extremely angry when someone accidentally bangs into them with a trolley. It seems that a state of pre-civility still reigns in UK supermarkets.
