'Please take me into care.' (families caring for person with mental illness need help)
Article Abstract:
The UK National Schizophrenia Fellowship's new Carers' Education and Support Programme aims to prevent those who care for the mentally ill becoming isolated and possibly developing health problems of their own because of lack of support. Lynne Jones, Labour MP for Birmingham Selly Oak, England, hopes that new awareness of the challenges faced by those caring for the mentally ill will ensure that nobody has to undergo what she experienced as a child, when her mentally ill father dominated family life and eventually caused her mother to suffer severe stress.

Families on breadline face 'daily battle.' (problems facing families on low incomes in the UK)
Article Abstract:
There are currently around 14 million adults and children in the UK who live in households where the net income is only half the national average, according to a report from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. People living in poverty are often believed to be wasting their money, but this is far from being the case. In fact, they are often very experienced at money management. According to the report, real poverty problems began to emerge when the link between earnings and social security benefits was severed in the early 1980s.

The single society
Article Abstract:
The dramatic rise in the number of people living alone in the UK is having a significant impact on the country's culture. Services are being adapted to meet the needs of single people, and manufacturers are targeting products specifically at this group. Single people are now coming to be seen as the essential unit in society, going against the traditional focus on the family unit.
