Porton Down may be sold off
Article Abstract:
The Ministry of Defence chemical and biological defence establishment Porton Down, may be privatised by the Treasury. The nature of what goes on at Porton Down will require the sale to be highly safeguarded, but the sale is necessary to raise money for public expenditure. The sale is being considered under the sale of Defence Evaluation Research Agency (Dera) which is responsible for running the chemical and biological establishments in Wiltshire, UK. it employs some 12,000 people and the sale has the full backing of the management. There are some concerns that the privatisation of the Dera could have repercussions upon the commercial links it has with the US government laboratories. There is some interest in the Dera from the aerospace industry, but no definite decision concerning a sale has been reached. The Dera at Porton Down owns six wind tunnels, tank-testing tracks, 16 satellite facilities, radio station, jetties, fire station and sea ranges across the UK. If it were sold the deal would include all test facilities, laboratories and accommodation.

Azlan ends takeover talks as offers fail to satisfy
Article Abstract:
UK based computer components supplier, Azlan, is understood to have called off takeover talks with two potential bidders. Although these bidders have not officially been disclosed it is understood that they may have been US based distributors, CHS and Techdata, as both have European expansion plans. It is believed that Azlan decided to call off the talks because the offer was not of value to its shareholders, although details of the offer or what Azlan is demanding have not been disclosed. Mr Barrie Morgans, the current chairman and chief executive, has announced that he is to promote Mr Peter Bertram to the position of chief executive. Mr Bertram is currently the finance director of Azlan. Mr Morgans will remain as a non-executive chairman.
