Portrait of a marriage
Article Abstract:
Artist Fionula Boyd feels that she and her husband Les Evans have developed a great shared understanding through working on paintings together. She emphasizes that they genuinely wish to create harmonious paintings in which it is not possible to identify which of them was responsible for each element. Her husband states that they found it very hard to produce satisfactory work when their children were young, as one of them always had to be responsible for caring for the children. Their children are now grown up, so they are able to really work together again.

Here's mud in your eye
Article Abstract:
Objects found on the banks of rivers are links to concepts, according to Mark Dion, the world's leading exponent of found object compositions. He feels that such objects offer a guide through ideas and through imagining other systems of value. He is opposed to a linear model of history, and seeks to show the continuity of history. He regards himself as a pessimist who wishes to be proven wrong about pessimism relating to the state of the world. His 'Tate Thames Dig' discoveries are being displayed at the Tate Gallery in London, England.

Good old-fashioned Modernism
Article Abstract:
Artist Caio Fonseca is interested in the interplay of forms, rather than in the individual forms themselves. He believes in an underlying order, and his paintings have a sense of classical balance and formal rigour that prevents them being simply decorative. He believes that he paints in a similar way to Bach's music, which shows total exploitation of the initial material. He begins by laying out the proportions, and these proportions then begin to indicate the form of the piece.
