Prince's police strike terror into opposition
Article Abstract:
There have been 14 civilian deaths in Bahrain since unrest began in Shia areas of the country in 1994. Despite this, opposition to the government has become extremely active. There are now four separate groups calling for democratic reform, and they are starting to represent a strong threat to the government of Sheikh Issa bin Salman al-Khalifa, who dissolved parliament in 1975. Furthermore, around 1,000 Bahrainis have now been exiled for calling for a return to democracy.

Bahraini exiles tell of torture and abuse
Article Abstract:
Bahrain has imprisoned and deported many dissidents, apparently on the orders of Ian Henderson, the British head of the country's intelligence services. Deportees report experiences of being beaten in Bahraini prisons, and some have been deprived of their citizenship. They continue to call for a fully democracy in Bahrain, including a completely elected parliament.
