Pro-war, anti-war, or just anti-Labour?
Article Abstract:
The liberal press in the UK has traditionally opposed war, but this section of the media has in fact been most supportive of Nato military action against the Serbs over the treatment of ethnic Albanians in Kosovo, Yugoslavia. Media coverage of this conflict has been characterized by a generally much less jingoistic tone than was adopted during the Falklands war and the Gulf war. Furthermore, there has not been any criticism of editorialists and commentators who are opposed to Nato military action against the Serbs. There is considerable debate in the UK about whether military action is justified, in contrast with a monolithic media in Serbia.

The road to a diplomatic settlement with Serbia
Article Abstract:
Any peace settlement between Nato and Serbia will have to involve Western troops being based in Kosovo, Yugoslavia. Ethnic Albanians who have fled Kosovo will not return there unless they are protected against Serb troops and militias, and Nato will have failed if it cannot offer this protection. Nato will probably win the military conflict eventually, but will have paid a very high price for victory. It is impossible to predict when the authorities in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, will decide that the costs of further resistance are greater than the costs of agreeing to Nato's core demands.
