Professor A.H. Diverres
Article Abstract:
French scholar Armel Diverres graduated with first class honours in French from the University College of Swansea, Wales, in 1936. He gained the Licence-es-Lettres at the University of Rennes, France, and the MA of the University of Wales in 1938. He was Lecturer in French at Manchester University, England, until 1954, and then took up a Senior Lectureship at Aberdeen, Scotland. He was Professor of French at the University College of Swansea between 1974 and 1981.

Professor Wallace Fowlie
Article Abstract:
French scholar Wallace Fowlie resolved to learn French at an early age, and as an adult became fluent in seven Romance languages. He attended Harvard from 1926 to 1936, and during the second world war taught French to soldiers. He took employment in a number of different places, but in 1964 settled at Duke University in Durham, NC. He was foreign editor at Poetry between 1950 and 1970, and in the 1970s and 1980s wrote his memoirs.
