Pulp fiction from the age of steam
Article Abstract:
There has been a significant rise in interest among collectors in Victorian railway yellowback novels. These novels, which feature brightly illustrated covers, were first sold from bookstalls on railway stations in the mid-19th century. Serious collectors are only interested in yellowbacks in extremely good condition. Indeed, a yellowback in poor condition can be worth only a tenth of the amount of one in excellent condition. The rarest yellowbacks sell for between 400 pounds sterling and 500 pounds sterling.

Stories to chill the blood
Article Abstract:
It is still possible to purchase old travel books very inexpensively. These give a very interesting insight into a wide range of subjects, particularly westerners' views of blacks as long ago as the 17th century. Some books, including A. Arkell-Hardwick's 'An Ivory Trader in North Kenia,' are becoming highly sought-after. This is particularly the case with books about big game hunting. Books with very incongruous content tend to be priced quite highly.

The drawing power of children's fiction
Article Abstract:
Collectors of children's book illustrations tend to value illustrations that have been published more highly than those that have not. However, experts place greatest emphasis on the quality of the illustration. Many illustrations are purchased by amateurs simply because they like them, rather than by people wishing to build up a valuable collection. Illustrations that have adult appeal tend to have the widest market and sell for the highest prices.
