Why Redwood is not the answer
Article Abstract:
The manifesto put forward by John Redwood, who is challenging John Major for the leadership of the Conservative party, is not sufficiently radical. Its main aim is simply to bring together enough Conservative parliamentarians to remove John Major from power, and it does not contain the populist measures which are necessary if the party is to win the next general election. A number of its proposals seem unrealistic, and it will not appeal to moderate Eurosceptics.

Doom is Major's best weapon
Article Abstract:
John Redwood did not attract much attention as Welsh secretary, but it now seems that he will prove a strong opponent to John Major in the battle for the leadership of the Conservative party. He is shrewd, has strong policies, and is working hard to attract middle-class voters. He is quick to acknowledge John Major's achievements, and has been totally loyal to him until now.
