Rolf Knie
Article Abstract:
Elephant trainer Rolf Knie belonged to the fifth generation of a highly respected circus dynasty. He began his career in the circus as a child acrobat, but later moved into animal training. He specialized in elephant training, and was the leading European elephant trainer for many years. He was the first person to present African elephants in the circus ring in Europe, and following his retirement ran a Children's Zoo in Rapperswil, Switzerland.

Lion trainer Charly Baumann was born in Berlin, Germany, in 1928. He first came into contact with the circus through Paula Busch's circus, and was initially a horse trainer.
