Royal Ballet's faux pas
Article Abstract:
The Royal Ballet's Dance Bites programme, which is now in its sixth season, seeks to create regional audiences for modern dance in the UK. The company splits in half and performs in medium-sized theatres across the country. Dance Bites has a number of benefits, especially as it profiles the work of young choreographers on a smaller scale than at the Royal Opera House. However, the programme can also be regarded as counter-productive. There seems to be a lack of alignment between the product and the consumer, as the performances tend to attract people who expect traditional classical ballet.

Landscapes of nowhere
Article Abstract:
The exhibition of the work of American artist Mark Rothko currently being held at the Musee d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris in Paris, France, presents Rothko as a key figure. The earliest works in this exhibition, which date from 1935, show that Rothko made a quiet, figurative beginning. It is clear that Rothko came to be influenced by Picasso and Miro in the 1940s. The exhibition is organized chronologically, showing how Rothko came to abandon the figure completely in 1947.
