Rudy Burckhardt
Article Abstract:
Photographer, filmmaker, painter, poet and writer Rudy Burckhardt studied medicine in both Geneva, Switzerland, and London, England, before moving to New York, NY, in 1935. He began to take many photographs, attracted by New York's vibrancy and its architecture. He made four films with Surrealist loner Joseph Cornell in the mid-1950s, but also made some excellent films in the 1930s, including 'Seeing the World Part One: a visit to New York.' He taught classes in cinematography and painting at the University of Pennsylvania between 1967 and 1975.
