Tariffs 'will double car prices.' (US plans to double tariff on Japanese luxury cars)
Article Abstract:
Japan must open its market to cars from the US by the end of Jun 1995 if it is to stop the US carrying out its threat to double the tariff on 13 models of Japanese luxury cars. If the 100% tariff is imposed, leading Japanese car manufacturers will find that they will no longer be able to sell their most profitable cars in the US. The move may well offer considerable benefits to top-of-the-range European vehicle manufacturers such as Saab and Mercedes.
