Safe players win in volatile times
Article Abstract:
Mainstream European investment funds have shown mixed performance since spring 1998. Large company shares continue to perform more strongly than those of small companies, but some investment funds have benefited from wise share selection in the small company sector. These include the Invesco European Smaller Companies fund, which has been upgraded from AA to AAA, and Newton Continental European Fund. It is also worth considering Threadneedle European Select Growth, which has also been moved up to a top AAA rating.

Trackers: are they all treats?
Article Abstract:
Tracker funds appear to perform very well, but comparisons with actively managed funds can be misleading. Charges are often considerably lower for tracker funds, and many UK investors now select tracker funds as a key holding in their investment portfolio. However, it is important to be aware that tracker funds have some limitations. Most significantly, investors may feel tempted to place all their money in a single tracker fund, a strategy which brings lack of diversity to their investment portfolio.
