Safety-first leadership condemned by Gould
Article Abstract:
Bryan Gould, candidate for the Labour Party leadership and deputy leadership, called for the party to establish a positive left-wing image by the next general election. He explained his idea of a socialist framework where a broader outlook than that of market forces is taken. He said lack of support for a policy giving the rich responsibility for the poor meant slanting policies to help all, especially the disadvantaged. Mr Gould proposed full employment, a minimum wage, better childcare and more pension contributions rights. He intended to integrate tax, national insurance and the benefits system to avoid means testing.

Heseltine likely to come out for Clarke
Article Abstract:
Former Chancellor Kenneth Clarke's campaign for the leadership of the UK Conservative party is currently much more low-key than the campaigns of his rivals. However, he has gained the support of former Deputy Prime Minister Michael Heseltine, and it is believed that other leading Conservatives will shortly express their support for him publicly. Some of his supporters are becoming very frustrated by his lack of campaigning, while others portray themselves as being above the frantic activity of other candidates.
