A modest political proposal from the man who would be king
Article Abstract:
The UK's privatised utilities are bringing in tax revenues of 60 million pounds sterling a week for the Exchequer, according to Ian Lang, president of the Board of Trade. Against this background, the heads of privatised utilities deserve attractive salary packages. Lang has kept a low political profile, but is regarded as a likely middle-ground contender for the leadership of the Conservative party when John Major is eventually replaced.

Iron grip corroded by fatal ignorance
Article Abstract:
Former UK prime minister Margaret Thatcher treated her colleagues with contempt, but was able to remain in power as long as the Conservative party kept winning general elections. She was not removed as party leader until it became clear that election defeat would take place if she was not removed. Her main weakness was her refusal to listen to advice, and this eventually turned her colleagues against her.
