Secret of your smile
Article Abstract:
An experiment devised by the BBC television programme 'QED' has linked scientists with people who believe themselves to be very unhappy. The aim of this project was to allow the scientists to assess whether there may be any neurological factors determining happiness and unhappiness. The volunteers were first encourage to discuss their fears about happiness, and were then constantly reminded to think positively. It was found that sleeping well, being able to relax and having an absorbing hobby were key elements in a person's happiness.

Women still haunted by the risk factor
Article Abstract:
The recent revelation that the risk of blood clots developing when taking a combined contraceptive pill is twice that of other types of pill has further added to long-standing concerns about the health risks associated with contraceptive pills. Combined pills have been promoted over recent years as being safer than earlier types, as they have a much lower dose of oestrogen, thus theoretically reducing the risk of blood clots. New research has found that this is not the case.

Could I have saved my baby all this?
Article Abstract:
There is a wide range of literature available for pregnant women, but very little attention is given to the subject of premature labour. This means that women who do go into premature labour can fail to recognise the signs, and therefore do not seek medical treatment soon enough, placing their baby at risk. Signs of premature labour can include lower abdominal pain, unusual vaginal discharge, cramps and mild contractions.
