Shin Bet fights to save its skin
Article Abstract:
Shin Bet, Israel's security service, has been widely criticised for failing to prevent the assassination of Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin, especially after it was revealed that it had received information about a possible assassination attempt some months previously. It is now keen to point out that it did not have the name of a potential assassin, and could not therefore have been expected to find the person concerned. However, critics point out that further interrogation of the person who reported plans for the assassination would have revealed the name of the suspect.
