Should they be made to go buy the book?
Article Abstract:
Students often find that college and university libraries stock insufficient copies of books which they are expected to read for their courses. They request further copies to be purchased, but are usually told that they should buy the books themselves. For many students, this would cause considerable hardship, as the books can be expensive. There is a lack of communication on both sides, with some students being reluctant to give up other purchases in order to buy books but some academic staff having unrealistically high expectations of student purchasing power.
